My expedition to Heaven on Earth
Kashmir is called the heaven on earth and I agree with this statement. My trip to the Land of Greenery will never fade away from my memory. Just thinking of the beautiful butterflies fluttering in the air, the cool breeze flowing in the sky, the calm and silent atmosphere and the scenic view makes me wish I was back in Kashmir. I can still vividly remember those unforgettable times in Kashmir still after 8 years of visiting it.
I was a small child of four when one day my father said to me,"We are going to visit Kashmir.” I said to him," Who is that?" My father laughed at me and said,"Kashmir is a place not a person. You will understand when we get there.”
My first glimpse of this Land Of Scenery was on the plane. Looking out of the window, I could see the grassy plains and heaps of snow. Mountains were everywhere and it was altogether a beautiful scenic view.
My first day in Kashmir was fascinating. The scenic view of The Dal Lake, The calm and peaceful atmosphere and the sound of boats gliding through the water amazed me and made me think was in a time totally different world. Our stay in the houseboat was excellent. Next morning, I woke up early and witnessed a heavenly sight. The sun was rising in the east, partly covered by clouds, its light illuminating the sky. In the distance, I saw several mountains and greenery.
Our next stop was at Gulmarg. It was literally "covered” with snow. We trudged through the snow to reach our hotel.
This was where I first learned to ski. It was brilliant, the wind blowing on my face, the scenery on top of the mountain… no words to express. Our guide told me I had the makings of a remarkable skier and it made me swell with pride.
Thus was also the first time I rode on horseback. My first horse ride still remains in my memory. I sat in front of my father and the clicking of the horse’s hooves on the ground was a lovely sound to me.
Suddenly the horse turned direction and I nearly fell of the horse. "Help!” I screamed. "The Horse is running away help! “
Horse went towards the stream and began to drink water. "Horse is just drinking water no need to be afraid,” the guide said kindly to me.
I was sorry to leave Kashmir. The scenery, the famous places and the atmosphere were all brilliant. I wished I could have lived in Kashmir. Even though it was years ago, these memories still remain in my mind. It is said that some good memories will never be forgotten no matter how long ago it happened and I think my Kashmir trip is one of them.
